From Richmond to LA to Bristol.

So I’m experiencing a pretty serious creative block right now. I feel like writing about it may somehow help. I’m taking two classes at UWE, Professional Practice (basically learn about real life getting a job and assemble all your professional material; business card, CV, web presence etc.) and Production Studies (form groups and create one 90 second animation over the course of 10 weeks). Well, regardless of my excitement for Production Studies and getting to work with people on a wonderful animation, I’m empty of ideas. Tuesday each student has to pitch an idea to the class, complete with mood boards. I feel quite behind as i have yet to feel great about any idea. My group is doing mixed media, stop motion, live action, pixelation ish compilation. I love the plan for mixing materials, I’m just at a total loss for what kind of story (in 90 seconds) would be wonderful and earth shattering… because whats the point of making something unoriginal and bland? A classmate and friend showed me this and this, i think they are both so beautiful and inspiring. I usually land on some idea that i really fall for and stand behind with all my passion. But I’m fresh out of that right now. Most recently I’ve done installation work (see samples on me website) so getting back in the made-for-screen mode is a little rough. I’m in a new country, at a new school, surrounded by young and inspired peers… it is really amazing. So why aren’t the ideas flowing? I’m starting to feel like I’m losing my creativity, maybe from spending a summer in LA where it was all business. Well, either way, i have to shake it off and have something amazing to pitch by Tuesday. I love the idea of pitching. I think I’m a pretty good speaker and if I’m passionate about something I have no problem expressing that.  Any ideas?

Bristol has been really fantastic. The rain and cloudiness is quite a downer, but it makes the rare blue sky and sunshine completely wonderful. I went running with a friend this evening, as the sun was setting, and Bristol is really a beautiful city to explore. I so wish one or some of my friends would have a chance to visit, particularly, E, G, and O. I’ll just use first initials to protect their identities :) and i really hope my parents get to visit too.

I leave Friday for a weekend trip to London with my flat mates! I’m totally excited for it. Then the next weekend i may be visiting family friends in Plymouth. And then a trip home with a friend from my course to experience a real English countryside (her home is on a farm). I have some good stuff to look forward to.

now for the idea for my pitch on Tuesday…

with lack of creative juice… yours truly,

Meg
